India-Africa Sourcing: Building Repeatable Trade

How transparent pricing, reliable specifications and inspection can support long-term India-Africa sourcing relationships.

Start with products that fit the market

Demand, standards, packing, price sensitivity and distribution economics vary by country and customer segment.

Keep the commercial model understandable

Where eligible, the Africa Supply Program uses a 1% disclosed sourcing commission, while product and third-party costs remain separately identified as applicable.

Do not trade quality for price

A lower price that produces claims, rejection or damaged reputation is not a saving.

Match documentation to destination

Food, industrial, electrical and consumer products may have different import and certification requirements.

Design for repeat orders

Consistent specifications, supplier performance, inspection criteria and communication create scalable trade relationships.

Important: Product, regulatory, quality and commercial requirements must be confirmed for the specific transaction. This guide is general information, not a substitute for transaction-specific verification.

We will evaluate the sourcing route and required quality controls.

Ghana buyers: sourcing textiles and industrial products from India

For a Ghana-bound enquiry, provide the product specification, quantities, consignee, intended entry point and final delivery location. ISS reviews the Indian supply route and the agreed inspection and export scope before confirming an offer. This is an India-side supply enquiry route; it is not a claim of an ISS factory, office or stocked warehouse in Ghana.

Choosing the best supplier for your Ghana order

Compare evidence for the actual order: source identity, relevant production or stock capability, approved sample or drawing, inspection plan, traceability and a quotation with clear exclusions. Largest, biggest and oldest describe different things and do not establish that an offer meets your requirement. Ask for evidence behind any supplier ranking or capacity claim.

Keep textile and metal specifications separate

For shirts, state fabric composition, construction, size chart, colour and size quantities, labels, packing and sample approval. For a stainless-steel flange or fitting, state the exact material designation, product and dimensional standards, size, rating or wall requirement, connection, quantity and required records. SS 316 and SS 316L must not be silently substituted. Destination does not replace the buyer's engineering or product-acceptance requirements.

Prepare Ghana clearance documents before dispatch

The Ghana Revenue Authority lists a transport document, attested invoice, packing list, Import Declaration Form, importer tax identity and applicable regulatory permits among import requirements. Its procedure uses a clearing-agent declaration through ICUMS. Confirm the shipment-specific requirements with the consignee and clearing agent before dispatch; this summary does not establish product eligibility or a duty rate. GRA import procedures — reviewed 28 September 2026.

Compare the full delivery basis

State the named Incoterm and place, freight scope, insurance, clearance responsibility and inland delivery destination. A port quotation does not automatically include delivery to an inland address. Confirm each cost and responsibility in writing; no general page can guarantee clearance, transit time or stock.

Kenya buyers: prepare origin and conformity evidence before shipment

For a Kenya-bound order of new garments, fabrics or engineering components, identify the importer, entry point and final delivery address when requesting the quotation. KRA's Certificate of Origin notice states that the requirement started on 1 July 2025, with full compliance from 1 October 2025 after a transition period. The notice includes exceptions and provisional measures subject to Customs review. Confirm the applicable route for your consignment with the importer and appointed clearing agent before dispatch; do not assume a general exemption.

KRA's import guidance also identifies a Certificate of Conformity for regulated products. Establish whether pre-export conformity assessment applies to the exact goods before arranging inspection and shipment. A material test certificate, supplier brochure or an ordinary origin statement should not be assumed to replace a destination-specific document.

Make the apparel quotation usable for the importer

List each style and fabric composition, whether the garment is knitted or woven, size and colour quantities, unit price, country of manufacture and carton contents. Keep invoice descriptions, packing lists and approved samples consistent. For a mixed order, separate shirts, trousers, underwear and fabric rolls into identifiable lines. Confirm labels, inspection criteria and the required supporting records before production.

Separate the product price from delivery responsibilities

Ask for a named Incoterm and place, with freight, insurance, import clearance and inland delivery responsibilities stated separately. The importer and clearing agent should confirm classification, taxes and conformity requirements for the actual shipment. ISS supplies against the agreed specification and commercial scope; this guide does not promise Kenyan stock, a local ISS factory, a duty concession or guaranteed clearance.
